The starting position is in the town of Tarvisio, the last Italian municipality which borders to the north with Austria and to the east with Slovenia. The route immediately takes the SS54 road through the Rio del Lago valley through to Cave del Predil. In front of you’ll admire the Cima del Lago (Peak of the Lake), whilst on the left you’ll see the green waters of the Predil Lake surrounded by grazing animals.

Once past the lake, you’ll turn onto the SP76, a road still surrounded by vegetation that leads to Sella Nevea, a hamlet of Chiusaforte, from where you’ll take the path that leads directly to the plateau.

The first part of the climb has a short section with tough gradients, then the gradient softens until it becomes a pleasant ride that leaves room for admiration of the enchanting alpine landscape.

The finish line is located at the top of the Montasio plateau near a “malga” (a traditional Italian alpine-style cheese hailing) that produces the famous cheese of the same name from this area: Montasio. This destination is at an altitude of 1,700 metres above sea level, was also the scene of a stage of the 2013 Giro d'Italia and offers an exceptional panorama of the entire Friulian plain below.
